Sydney, August 9, 2010: Australian company Power & Data Corporation has again been recognised for design excellence on a global scale, with its Mainline Power Track B Series adaptor, nominated for the prestigious German Design Award.
Nominees of this prestigious award - known as the "prize of prizes‟ - must have previously won at least one world-renown design award in order to be considered. No other design award sets such high requirements for the participants. The nominees are selected by a jury of independent experts and are then nominated by the Ministries and Senators for Trade and Industry of the German States, or by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology.
This nomination confirms the design innovation and quality of the Mainline Power Track B-Series Adaptor, which this year won both the Australian International Design Award and the European Red Dot Design Award.
“This award represents the crème de la crème in design and innovation; we‟re really pleased to have been recognised. This outstanding success for Mainline has created international recognition for what is a brilliant and innovative product,” said Simon Toovey, Managing Director, Power & Data Corporation.
“The Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany sets the global benchmark for quality design, with previous winners including the BMW, Audi, Braun, Mercedes Benz and Coca Cola. It‟s a great achievement for an Australian company to be nominated for such a prestigious award.
“After many years in development, Mainline is now available in more than 12 countries and is achieving strong sales in Australia, Europe and the Middle East. The Mainline Power Track system has been installed in hundreds of schools as well as universities, broadcast centres and retail financial institutions, and these awards help us demonstrate our innovation and raise our profile across the world.”
The Mainline Power Track B-Series Adaptor has a unique universal platform providing a fully scalable global platform on which all new Mainline power adaptors and accessories will be developed. The common platform design enables rapid assembly and has expandable features that can house a replaceable fuse, LED indicator and a switch for added safety and flexibility.
Currently, the Mainline Power Track B Series Adaptor is designed to be compliant with 10 key global regions, including China, the US, UK and Europe.

42 products recognised for design excellence in the Australian International Design Awards
Products including an intensive care hospital bed, new generation Cochlear implant system, revolutionary sheep drench gun, lightweight wine bottles and hybrid surfboard combining a longboard and shortboard are among 42 winners in the 2010 Australian International Design Awards.
Presented by Standards Australia, the Australian International Design Awards is Australia’s premier product design assessment program, recognising design and innovation excellence. Winners were announced at a gala event in Sydney on Friday June 4.
An intensive care hospital bed designed with safety, comfort, ease-of-use and aesthetics in mind for patients, health practitioners and hospital staff won the 2010 top prize, Australian International Design Award of the Year.
Designed and manufactured by New Zealand based company Howard Wright, the M8 Intensive Care impressed judges with the attention to detail given to all aspects from the aesthetics and functionality through to the safety and comfort for all users, particularly the ability for a range of medical procedures to be undertaken without shifting the patient from the bed, reducing patient handling and risk of injury.
“To be named the Australian International Design Award of the Year a product needs to demonstrate outstanding performance across the six criteria of innovation, functionally, visual appeal, quality and manufacturing, human factors and environmental sustainability. The M8 Intensive Care exceeded all the criteria,” said Stephanie Pemberton, Program Director of the Australian International Design Awards.
“The decision was not taken lightly by judges. This year, 42 products received a Design Award in recognition of design excellence and 69 were awarded a Design Mark for good design – a record number,” Ms Pemberton said.
Of the 42 Design Award winners, nine products were nominated for the Design Award of the Year:
- M8 Intensive Care designed by Howard Wright
- Evoke conference seating system designed by Outerspace Design and Camatic
- Cochlear™ Nucleus 5 implant System designed by Cochlear and Blue Sky Design Group
- Enviromesh concrete reinforcing material designed by Infinity Design Development for OzSafe Industries
